The LTA announced a step toward national control of the .lr domain, Liberia’s digital identity.
After a week of consultations led by its ccTLD consultant, Olu Olutola, the LTA Board of Commissioners was briefed on the proposed framework for governing and operating .lr, and on what Liberia must submit to the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, through ICANN, to have the domain redelegated.
Under the proposal, the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and the LTA would oversee policy, the Liberian Internet Domain Registry would run the technical operations, and a Multi-Stakeholder Advisory Council would support policy development. The priorities are a .lr policy framework, a registry operator, secure DNS infrastructure, accredited registrars and registration data services.
The LTA will circulate the draft policy framework for review and settle the remaining policy, legal and regulatory questions before its Board adopts the recommendations.
