Liberia has secured a waiver of US$361,151.36 in arrears owed to the African Telecommunications Union, some dating back to 1982, restoring its full voting rights and financial standing in the continental body. An LTA delegation led by Chairman Clarence K. Massaquoi negotiated the waiver, and arranged payment of Liberia’s current dues, at the 7th Ordinary Session of the ATU Conference of Plenipotentiaries in Abuja, Nigeria.

With its vote restored, Liberia took part in adopting the 2026 Abuja Declaration on Meaningful Connectivity, which commits members to affordable broadband, cybersecurity, digital literacy and investment in digital infrastructure. Liberia also deposited its ratification of the ATU Constitution and Convention.

On the sidelines, the delegation met the ATU Secretariat, the International Telecommunication Union, regional regulators and development partners.
